Thyroid aspirations, commonly known as fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy, are a diagnostic technique used to assess thyroid nodules. In this procedure, a slender needle is inserted into the nodule to obtain a small tissue or fluid sample.

 

This sample is then analyzed under a microscope to determine whether the nodule is benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
